CEO Awarded 2007 Outstanding Mentor Award (1/7/2008)

Growing Technologies' Chief Executive Officer, Jenny Kim, has been awarded the 2007 Outstanding Mentor Award for Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP). VMP is a wonderful organization that changes the lives of youth and mentors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Jenny has been an active mentor with Computers4Kids (C4K) in Charlottesville, Virginia for almost 3 years. She started off as a Mentor in their mentor program. After helping her learning partner graduate and meet her goals, Jenny helped develop a new program at Computers4Kids called Stay Active. This program allowed C4K graduated students to continue to learn higher level applications and gave the students a productive and learning activity after school.

Stay Active is a core group of C4K graduated students that work as a team to redesign web sites as well, design logos. In addition, the team works on the development of web sites and have goals of creating a more interactive community for the Stay Active web site. This site will grow to become a site for youth in the Central Virginia to learn about various activities they can become involved in as well as a site to ask questions about college, learn about technology, how to get involved in Stay Active, and so much more.

Jenny Kim loves working with our community's youth and says, "The enjoyment of working with the youth in our community is knowing that they will make goals for themselves and now have tools and skills to actually achieve them. They are the future, and if their goals are achieved then so is our community's goals."

Growing Technologies Supports Local Kids (5/1/2007)

Growing Technologies has partnered with Computer4Kids, The Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families and other local non-profit agencies to create an after school activity for Computer4Kids graduates called Stay Active. The program focuses on continuing the mentoring that these middle and high school students received while they were Computer4Kids learning partners. Growing Technologies’ staff provides a weekly class that focuses on teaching the Stay Active participants various technical skills such as graphic design, web site development and project and time management. The first project that the participants are taking on is the redesign of the Stay Active website, www.stayactive.org.

Computer4Kids graduates 4 groups of students every year. As students graduate from Computers4Kids they will be eligible to join the Stay Active team. As the current participants take on more responsibilities and learn more advanced skills, they will start taking on the mentoring role to the new team members.

Computer4Kids is a great organization that focuses on providing learning opportunities for those students in the Charlottesville community that may not have the opportunity to learn advanced skills on the computer as well as own a computer.
